Toys are an inevitable art of every person’s childhood. Be it the racing cars, dolls, balls, bats, the kitchen set, soft toys, board games, or the GI Joe action figure. Every toy has a special place in a child’s heart. Even when we are all grown up, there are times when we could not let go of our favourite toys. Such is the attachment to the toys. Playing with these toys were all fun and frolic but little did we know that toys play a significant role in how we get moulded as an adult. It develops lots of skills which are essential in our day to day lives and the skills that are required to deal with situations in our life. Toys Develop Motor Skills: Importance Of Toys

Yes, you read it right. Playing with toys helps the Child in developing their motor skills. Motor skills are the movement and the actions of the muscles one uses while doing something. Gross motor skills are simple actions of running, walking, jumping, hopping, or crawling. While fine motor skills are the smaller action like picking something using your index finger and thumb or knowing the taste of the food or feel the texture of the objects, these are few of the examples of Fine motor skills. Toys encourage children to use their hands and feet, like dressing up the dolls, catching the ball. These actions develop the motor skills gross and fine motor skills alike.

Development Of Cognitive Skills: Importance Of Toys

Cognitive skills are the skills that are needed to recollect, reason, read, to name a few. The skills used to think and process the information and use these pieces of information for problem-solving and learning are called Cognitive Skills. Board games like chess help a child to think about what should be the next move so that the King is saved. While playing ball, a child needs to gauge where the ball will be going so that they can move to that position and catch the ball. Building blocks are also a fantastic toy that aids in developing the cognitive skill of a child as they have to think about what they are making and how they will make it using the blocks.

Social And Emotional Development Through Toys

Most of the time, when a child is playing with toys,’ he/she is not playing alone. The child is playing with other children, and this involves interaction with other children while playing. This interaction with their friends helps them to develop their social and emotional skills as they learn how to interact, how to put forth their views, how they handle situations as well. They learn to share, understand, and motivate each other to do well. Like in a game of catch, when a team member is not able to catch the ball, others motivates the Child by cheering or giving him/her the pep talk. This constant interaction helps them to develop both their social and emotional skills, which are very critical in their adult life.

Although many people think that toys are just a way to keep their Child engage, but inadvertently they are helping children to develop their personality from a young age.
